Hillingdon

9 of us spent the weekend of August 12-13 walking in the New Forest. With Saturday being the damper day, Barbara switched her planned routes so we were able to shelter in several woods during short spells of light rain Saturday morning. We were shown various sites in the forest that showed how important a location the area was in WW2, Barbara being a good font of knowledge. We stumbled across a herd of deer, loads of New Forest horses and saw a variety of landscapes and quite a few hills. Lesley’s love of ice cream was met at the lunch stop and having battled strong winds, we were treated to tea and biscuits at Barbara’s caravan before all heading off to our various overnight hotels.

 Day 2

Sunday saw a brighter and dry day where the abundance of pink heather accompanied us most of the day and was spectacular. Lunch was by a stream taking advantage of lots of tree stumps to sit on before having a mid afternoon break at a garden centre where several of us indulged in New Forest ice cream which was very rich but got us through another long hilly day.
